Key West Express - A little about Key West Rather than just a list of links we wrote this little story about a typical trip. Let us know what you think!!
What a day, boarded the ship early and got myself a Pina Colada. The wife and kids staked out prime spots in the bow, I was on my own. Soon we were underway with all engines purring like kittens. Skimming across the Gulf I perched on the upper deck while the captain gave us a little verbal tour of the Coast. After a bit I could feel my skin starting to turn pink like the lobsters back home. A little food and a good cup of coffee put me in a great frame of mind for the rest of the trip.
When we arrived in "Olde Key West", the four of us rode the Conch Train Tour, and got a good idea where everything was. Little Jimmy even got to blow the whistle as we headed through the center of town. Barbara, my wife of 17 years, spotted every shopping experience available and I knew if I didn't find something to do it was going to be a long afternoon.
I spotted Mel Fisher's Atocha Museum and figured looking at some real Spanish Treasure could keep me interested for a while. Barbara went off to seek her treasure with the kids, and I went off to seek mine. After a quick trip through the museum I felt a little more history and culture was in order. I immediately headed down the street to Sloppy Joe's and staked out a stool on the same spot where Hemmingway relaxed after a day chasing Tarpon on the flats.
After a pleasant afternoon soaking up the culture and a few Margarita's, I joined the family for the start of the trip back to the real world. We reboarded and left Key West headed back north. Watching the famous south Florida Sunset from the bow was something I will always remember. As the light faded we pulled back into the harbor and disembarked with two sleeping kids and a short drive back to the condo. What a great day aboard Sea Key West Express!!
